In a delightful and educational outing, a group of eager explorers comprising of asylum seekers led by Tour Guide Jan the Duke and Margret Ester embarked on a field trip around the picturesque town of Hardenberg in the Netherlands on the 19th of September 2023. This scenic destination, known for its natural beauty and rich cultural heritage, left the group in awe as they uncovered the hidden gems that this Dutch gem has to offer.
The excursion was organized through the Stichting TaalCultuur; an organization that helps asylum seekers and status holders integrate into Dutch society by broadening the horizons of its participants and fostering a deeper appreciation for the region’s history and environment. Participants varied in age, gender and nationality, all united in their curiosity to discover what Hardenberg had to offer.
One of the highlights of the trip was a visit to the stunning Vecht River, which winds its way through the heart of the town as well as Hardenberg’s historic town center which provided a captivating glimpse into Dutch heritage, with its charming architecture and cobblestone streets. Aside from the sites, the tour guide entertained with magic tricks to the delight of all who attended.
“This city tour in Hardenberg has been an eye-opening experience,” said one of the participants. “We’ve not only learned about the town’s history but also developed a profound connection to the natural beauty that surrounds it.”
As the session drew to a close, participants shared their newfound knowledge and enthusiasm for Hardenberg, appreciating the harmony between the town’s past and present.
